Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer to perform engineering analysis under a licensed Professional Engineer. You will build models and perform power system studies for solar, wind, and BESS projects, plus substation work.

You will conduct short circuit, load flow, harmonics, relay settings, and arc flash studies while collaborating with design teams and reviewing data sheets and reports. Strong communication and ethics are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution; electric power option preferred.
  • 0–1 years of relevant engineering or field experience.
  • FE is preferred but not required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Familiarity with power system concepts and software packages listed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer.
  • Prepare computer-based models and power system studies for utility-scale plants and substations.
  • Run short circuit, load flow, and relay protection studies; arc flash analyses.
  • Coordinate with design teams and review equipment data sheets and tests.
  • Maintain client relationships and uphold ethical standards.

Job description

  • Perform engineering analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer
  • Prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies for utility-scale solar, wind, BESS power plants, and substations
  • Perform short circuit, load flow, pre-energization harmonics, relay protection philosophy/settings, arc flash, and related studies
  • Manage timely execution of assigned tasks and communicate with the supervisor when workload exceeds capacity or capability
  • Communicate and coordinate with design teams to model evolving designs through project design cycles
  • Review equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design and approvals
  • Learn and maintain understanding of applicable codes, standards, and design/construction practices
  • Maintain company-client relationships regarding assignments and meeting topics
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards
  • Work additional time beyond 40 hours/week as required for projects, proposals, or administrative functions
  • Attend conferences, training workshops, seminars, and undergraduate/graduate classes as appropriate
  • Attend safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution; electric power option preferred
  • Basic understanding of key power systems concepts: per unit, 3-phase analysis, etc.
  • Typically requires at least one power system class to be taken while at university
  • 0–1 years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • FE is preferred but not required
  • Effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
  • Experience with power system software such as EasyPower, ETAP, Power Factory, SKM, PSSe, and PSCAD is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and standard computer software
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
