Job summary
Dominion Energy in Virginia seeks a Senior or Staff Engineer to join the Electric Transmission Planning & Strategic Initiatives team. The role focuses on evaluating new technologies for grid reliability, including inverter-based resources and HVDC, with exposure to PSCAD, PSS/E, and RTDS tools.
The position supports hybrid work with a 3-2 schedule and requires strong electrical engineering fundamentals and experience in power systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Engineering required with ABET accreditation or equivalent.
- 5+ years directly related experience for Sr Engineer; 8+ for Staff Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems.
- Experience with power system modeling and protection principles.
- Proficiency with PSCAD, PSS/E, RSCAD and other engineering tools.
Responsibilities
- Perform power system modeling, load flow, dynamic and small-signal studies.
- Conduct transient and electromagnetic simulations and real-time digital simulations.
- Support deployment of grid-forming inverter technologies for solar and storage.
- Collaborate with inverter OEMs on GFL and GFM control algorithms.
- Develop models and run simulations to analyze system dynamics and grid stability.
- Work with internal/external teams to integrate grid-forming tech into Dominion’s grid.
- Prepare technical papers, specifications, and DOE proposal contributions.
- Assist field teams with equipment emergencies and root-cause analysis.
