Job summary

Niowave in Lansing, MI is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to lead design, implementation and integration of accelerator power systems. You will work with cathode heaters, electron gun tuners, and related subsystems, while supporting cryogenics, RF, and HV domains.

You will mentor RF engineers, design testing methods, and help shape future accelerator architectures through system-level thinking and tight collaboration with nuclear and controls teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with focus on power electronics.
  • 5+ years of power electronics experience.
  • Experience designing, building and testing systems.
  • Broad understanding of power electronics/circuitry technology.
  • Mentoring RF engineering team members.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Ability to integrate into a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and maintain accelerator power systems including controlled heaters and tuners.
  • Consult with controls engineers on the proper power layout for normal-conducting beamline magnets and beamline diagnostics.
  • Interface with nuclear engineers concerning the design and operation of the x-ray conversion target.
  • Be part of the team designing the concept, architecture, and components of future systems.
  • Conduct optimization work on existing systems, perform measurements and validation tests.
  • Confirm system capabilities by designing testing methods
