Job summary

OpenTable in Toronto is seeking a Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer to lead reliability, performance, and scalability of our PostgreSQL platform. This hybrid role blends on-site collaboration with remote flexibility and centers on building a cloud-native data platform for millions of diners and restaurants worldwide.

You'll own complex database initiatives end-to-end, mentor engineers, and partner with Product and Data Engineering teams to optimize schemas, automate provisioning, and ensure

Qualifications

• 7+ years of PostgreSQL administration, engineering, and production operations.
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, query planning, replication, vacuuming, and WAL.
• Experience designing high-availability, disaster-recovery, and failover for critical DB infra.
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming/automation language (Python/Go/Bash).
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code or config management for DB automation.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, architecture, and lifecycle management of PostgreSQL environments for high availability and performance.
• Automate provisioning, upgrades, monitoring, and credential rotation across DB infrastructure.
• Review DB designs with Product/Data Engineering; optimize schemas and migrations.
• Drive cloud DB strategy across multi-region envs balancing cost, security, and reliability.
• Serve as escalation point during incidents, perform root-cause analysis, implement fixes.
• Mentor engineers and raise standards with reusable operational patterns.
