Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated (JLL) seeks a senior sustainability program leader to drive end-to-end energy and resource efficiency initiatives for real estate portfolios across the United States. You will work with the client, JLL’s IFM and Sustainability teams to deliver cost savings and measurable environmental outcomes.

The role requires a deep understanding of HVAC, electrical and building systems, data analytics, and strong communication with executive stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong technical understanding of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems
• “Certified Energy Manager” or equivalent is preferred
• Ten+ years’ experience in sustainable operations, engineering, facilities management, or related field
• Experience in interacting with upper management and cross-functional teams
• Ability to manage data integrity and produce monthly/quarterly reports

What this job involves

At JLL, we drive resource efficiency management and sustainability through everything we do, across all service lines and job positions. Specifically, we are growing our practice to drive end-to-end sustainability solutions in real estate, from site selection to decommissioning. In this role, you will work directly with a Client as well as JLL’s internal IFM and Sustainability team supporting energy and cost reduction and sustainability goals, targets, and initiatives. As a member of the JLL Sustainable Operations team, you will ensure our sustainability services are effective and efficiently delivered. You will act as a catalyst enabling our Client to increase engagement across stakeholders, achieve progress towards goals, and realize success with improving building and facility performance while achieving cost savings. You will ensure program integration and implementation across multiple business lines and functions throughout the real estate lifecycle to achieve scope of work delivery and goals. This role requires strategic implementation, leadership, and a programmatic approach to embed sustainability thinking and practices into real estate functional aspects (e.g., fit-outs, occupancy, maintenance, experience, etc.).
Developing, implementing, and optimizing an energy and sustainability program in direct collaboration with the client’s sustainability team Robust, proactive communication, driving innovation, integration of feedback to remove roadblocks, and leveraging opportunities Strategic decision‑making, including leveraging data tracking and monitoring Interacting with client and other delivery teams in varied locations and time zones. Working cross‑functionally across JLL teams to achieve success with energy and sustainability initiatives aligned with the scope of work Program implementation, leadership and accountability including ongoing coordination of energy and sustainability initiatives, monitoring and reporting, and ownership of client relationships. Leveraging client tools and applicable in‑house JLL tools and processes for problem‑solving and monthly, quarterly and annual ESG and cost reporting. Understanding the implementation of sustainability and resource efficiency management across the life cycle of commercial real estate, including strong understanding of critical stakeholder roles Ability to incorporate state‑of‑the‑art Artificial Intelligence tools to identify and drive savings opportunities.

What is your day‑to‑day?

• Take ownership of and enhance the development and implementation of a multi‑faceted sustainability program to drive cost savings, including but not limited to the following :
• Energy savings (electrical, natural gas, diesel and other fossil fuels, refrigerants, etc.)
• Water savings
• Waste generation savings and reduction in waste to landfill
• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of energy reduction and sustainability initiatives across the client real estate portfolio, including development of relevant tactical and strategic plans and activities, including retro‑commissioning and best practices undefined
• Ability to assess solar PV feasibility and evaluate solar PPA’s received undefinedAbility to assess feasibility of sites for ENERGY STAR certifications
• Provide strategic direction and guidance on ways to effectively and efficiently implement and manage sustainability services that meet client expectations, including development of annual and multi‑year tactical and programmatic sustainability plans
• Meet client sustainability objectives and relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure processes for monitoring and measuring performance are transparent
• Own and develop internal and external stakeholder engagement to ensure integration of energy and sustainability initiatives
• Manage the energy, waste, and water data collection process and produce monthly and quarterly reports that are tailored to meet our clients’ specific requirements
• Engage with facility managers, energy champions, and account colleagues as they are key points of contact for the provision of wide‑ranging advice in relation to all aspects of environmental sustainability
• Establish strong working relationships with other JLL workstreams (technology, finance, projects, IFM, consultants, and procurement) to deliver against KPI targets, elevate the sustainability mission and objectives, and drive implementation where most organic within the business
• Collaborate with other JLL Sustainable Operations and Sustainable Strategies team members to share best practices, develop case studies, and pursue new business opportunities while leveraging the larger JLL Sustainable Operations Program
• With cross‑functional view, effectively manage changes in partnership with stakeholders, which have the potential to impact sustainability objectives
• Work in direct collaboration with data analysts to confirm data integrity and accuracy including quality control checks
• Track and communicate success stories to ensure a high level of awareness and engagement is achieved with regard to the overall sustainability program
• Demonstrate innovative thinking and proactive management in bringing new ideas and solutions to the service’s delivery, and ensure they are rolled out effectively
• Develop and enhance systems and processes for delivering best practice sustainability performance and use of utility/sustainability management systems for monitoring and/or reporting purposes
• Own and manage program deliverables according to scope of work and schedule
• Provide SME input and own program components (e.g., content development, maintenance)
• Ability to develop, file for, and secure State, Federal and Utility incentives.

Requirements – Essential

• Strong technical understanding of common HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems, specifically Heating systems such as boilers, furnaces, steam traps, deaerators and other relevant systems
• Cooling systems such as chillers, cooling towers, condensing systems, VFDs, thermal storage, and other relevant systems
• Ventilation systems such as dedicated outdoor air systems, air handlers, exhaust systems, heat recovery and recirculating ventilation systems
• Ability to conduct remote energy audits by logging in to client building management systems remotely
• University degree (Science, engineering, math, or related fields)
• Certified Energy Manager conferred by the Association of Energy Engineers
• 10 plus years’ experience in sustainable operations, engineering of commercial and lab buildings, building science, facilities management or related field
• Advanced understanding ofenergy conservation measures and sustainability initiatives in commercial real estate
• Strong operations experience in large multi-dimensional organization with focus on operations management, productivity, or engineering excellence and embody a bias for action
• Strong communication and cross‑collaboration skills, and ability to coordinate effectively with various stakeholders.
• Experience in interacting with upper management and C Suite preferred
• Demonstrated experience in influencing cross‑functional teams including development and delivery of presentations and trainings
• Excellent ability to build relationships with clients and their internal teams
• A strong track record of strategic integration of sustainability into organizations’ operations
• Experience working in a collaborative way with clients and other stakeholders to develop and implement ambitious and robust sustainability programs, including tactical plans, processes, roadmaps, and procedures
• Proven project management experience and excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail an accuracy in written and numeric work
• Ability to obtain buy‑in and engagement from employees at all levels

• P.E. License preferred
• Advanced degree, demonstrating a mastery of building systems (HVAC, lighting, building management systems) and related sustainability aspects
• Preferred applied experience in building auditing, commissioning, retrofit or design
• Experience working with corporate clients, commercial property, property managers and an understanding of the landlord and tenant relationship is desirable
• Advanced understanding of Greenhouse Gas Emission scopes and reportingas well as compliance
• An excellent understanding of the advanced energy and sustainability issues for corporate occupiers of real estate including, but not limited to: decarbonization, embodied carbon, circularity, resource preservation, biodiversity, climate risk, health & wellbeing, and social value creation
• Familiarity with municipal energy and sustainability regulations
• Advanced experience with utility and waste data analytics
