As a private partnership, we believe our ownership structure fosters a long-term view that aligns our perspectives with those of our clients.

About the Role

Tracing its roots to the founding of the Wellington Fund in 1928, the original Wellington Management Company was incorporated in 1933. Wellington Management serves an extremely diverse mix of institutional investors located in over 61 countries. Our clients include public funds, central banks, insurance entities, endowments, foundations, mutual fund sponsors, retirement plan sponsors — both defined benefit and defined contribution — and many other types of institutions. Wellington Management does not engage in any business other than managing money on behalf of our clients. Our mission is to exceed the investment objectives and service expectations of our clients worldwide, and by doing so, ensure the viability of the firm. In addition, we seek to be a leader, an innovator, and a symbol of integrity in the investment management business. We are committed to attracting a talented and diverse workforce, and to fostering an open, collaborative culture of inclusivity because we believe multiple perspectives lead to more informed investment and business decisions. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we welcome people with diverse life experiences, fresh ideas, and specialized subject-matter expertise.

JOB OVERVIEW

Portfolio Accounting is responsible for the integrity of Wellington’s records, including reconciliation with our client’s custodians, to ensure we can provide comprehensive, accurate and transparent information to the firm. Accounting data serves as a foundational data source for our investors, clients, and infrastructure teams who support the firm. The Senior Portfolio Accounting Analyst on the Reconciliation Team is primarily responsible for research and resolution of reconciliation items between Wellington and our client’s custodian banks, prime brokers, and accounting agents (“banks”). They possess a broad understanding of investment accounting and the drivers and root causes that lead to reconciliation differences. Attention to detail, and strong communication and investigation skills are essential to success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with internal groups to identify and resolve open reconciliation items
  • Identify break patterns and opportunities for process and control improvements
  • Use bank portals in the research of position, cash, and market value differences
  • Maintain concise documentation and proper audit trail for in-flight items
  • Analyze bank data to improve the quality of the reconciliation results
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to outsourced team members on escalated issues or inquiries

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • 3-5 years of experience in the Financial Services industry
  • Accounting, custody, and/or reconciliation experience
  • Experience working with data in Excel
  • SQL or Python knowledge is a plus
  • Deep understanding of accounting for fixed income and equity
  • Baseline understanding of accounting for derivatives and synthetic exposures
  • Inquisitive and comfortable challenging the status quo
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, and a high level of attention to detail
  • Comfort working across a global team
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in a collaborative, team-based, results-oriented environment
  • Cheerful outlook, self-motivated and willing to work in an energetic, fast-paced team environment

We are dedicated to building and maintaining a diversified workforce and considering a broad array of candidates with a variety of skill, workplace experiences, and backgrounds.
