The Senior Polysomnography Technologist reports directly to the Ambulatory Neurodiagnostic Supervisor. The Sr. Polysomnography Technologist performs routine and complex diagnostic and therapeutic polysomnographic procedures on hospital inpatients and outpatients of all ages. These procedures include, but are not limited to, in-lab polysomnograms, including diagnostic and PAP titrations, assisting with home sleep apnea testing, staging and scoring of all studies, oxygen administration, CO2 monitoring, PAP mask fittings, and patient education.

The Sr. Polysomnography Technologist promotes a positive working environment. This role participates in staff training and development for both new hires and experienced technologists. The Sr. Polysomnography Technologist is responsible for participating in daily huddles, ensuring fair patient workloads, and coordinating patient care in the shared lab space in partnership with the Principal Polysomnography Technologist. This role is proactive in the technical quality of the studies performed by all classifications of Polysomnography Technologists and Respiratory Therapists.

The Sr. Polysomnography Technologist enters data into various logbooks. This role ensures complete and clear, and accurate documentation for each procedure and patient seen.

The Sr. Polysomnography Technologist assists with research efforts and quality assurance to meet accreditation requirements as directed by the Sleep Disorders Lab Medical Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Polysomnograph Tech (R.PSG.T)-Must be licensed by the CA Medical Board as a Polysomnographic Technologist, or must be in process and current by the time of hire (documentation required)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or a UC Davis Health CPR certification
  • 2 years of experience as a Registered Polysom Technologist

Department Overview

The Sleep Disorders laboratory is part of the UCDMC Sleep Disorders Center, an American Academy of Sleep Medicine-accredited facility. The Laboratory is managed jointly by the Co-Medical Directors and the Practice Director. The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratories at UCDMC consist of five units: EEG, Sleep Disorders Center, TCD and EMG Labs, and the EEG/EMU Hospital Department. Each unit is managed jointly by the Medical Director and the Neurodiagnostic Services Director.
