Job summary

The University of Southern California is hiring an Assistant Director of Local Government Relations to advance USC’s policy priorities before the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and other regional entities.

Reporting to the Vice President of Local Government Relations and Civic Engagement, this role will build strong relationships with trade associations and community leaders to advocate effectively.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; 5 years in government relations.
• Strategic advocacy experience and strong project management.
• Excellent oral and written communication; diplomacy and discretion.
• Knowledge of City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles processes and regional policies.

Responsibilities

• Research, analyze, and evaluate local legislative issues to advise the VP on strategic solutions for advocacy and public policy.
• Monitor government matters and engage with trade associations, civic organizations, and community leaders to present USC positions.
• Prepare regular briefings, presentations, policy updates, letters of support/opposition, and executive memos for leadership.
• Represent USC in regional coalitions, liaise with city/county officials, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to align policy with university priorities.
