Job summary

Mazzetti's Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Consulting Practice is seeking a Senior Plumbing Designer to design and deliver plumbing systems for healthcare and complex facilities in the Atlanta region. The role emphasizes high-performance, resilient design and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

You will contribute to project delivery, create construction documents, mentor junior designers, and coordinate with architects, engineers, and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of plumbing engineering or plumbing design experience in the AEC industry.
  • Experience designing plumbing systems for healthcare or other complex facilities.
  • Experience designing medical gas systems preferred.
  • Experience with fire protection system design and coordination preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and supporting projects through construction.

Job Summary Mazzetti's Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) Consulting Engineering Practice is dedicated to designing high performance, resilience, and sustainable solutions for the built environment, with a keen focus on Healthcare and Infrastructure projects. Our team of experts combines technical excellence with a collaborative, client-focused approach to deliver exceptional outcomes. We are seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing Designer. This role will contribute to the design and delivery of plumbing building systems for healthcare and other complex facilities while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams supporting projects primarily in Atlanta, Georgia, and the greater southeast United States. Core Responsibilities
Plumbing Design & Engineering
  • Design plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, and other complex facilities.
  • Design domestic water, sanitary, storm, vent, natural gas, medical gas, and specialty plumbing systems, and support fire protection system design and coordination as appropriate.
  • Perform engineering analyses, calculations, equipment selections, and system studies.
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate plumbing systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialty disciplines.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications for quality, constructability, code compliance, and technical accuracy.
  • Apply applicable plumbing codes, healthcare standards, industry standards, and Mazzetti quality expectations throughout project delivery.
Project Delivery
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and clients throughout all phases of project delivery.
  • Participate in project planning, multidisciplinary coordination meetings, and design reviews.
  • Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, participation in site visits, and resolving technical issues during construction.
  • Contribute to successful project delivery by supporting schedule, quality, and client expectations.
Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across Mazzetti offices.
  • Share technical knowledge and collaborate with engineers and designers throughout the organization.
  • Participate in quality control reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor junior designers and emerging plumbing professionals as experience allows.
Work Location

This is a hybrid position based in the Atlanta, GA area, involving primarily working from home, client site visits throughout Georgia, and occasional presence in our Atlanta office as needed for project collaboration and team-building activities.

Travel Requirements

Approximately 10–20% travel, depending on project needs.

Requirements
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent plumbing design experience.
  • 8+ years of plumbing engineering or plumbing design experience within the AEC consulting industry.
  • Demonstrated experience designing plumbing systems for healthcare or other complex facilities.
  • Experience designing medical gas systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with fire protection system design and coordination is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and supporting projects through construction.
Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing building systems, including familiarity with fire protection systems and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable plumbing codes and industry standards.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit and Bluebeam.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations, equipment selections, specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Familiarity with sustainable, resilient, and high-performance building design principles.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD), and other relevant certifications strongly preferred.

Compensation

The typical salary range for a Senior Plumbing Designer based in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area is $100,000-$170,000. We are committed to equitable pay and will evaluate final compensation based on relevant experience and skills in alignment with internal equity and market data.
