Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a platform software engineer to design, build, and operate scalable cloud-native platform services. You will create composable abstractions and interfaces for product teams, ensuring reliable data flows across systems.

This role requires 5+ years in fullstack/backend/platform engineering, strong Python, and hands-on experience with GCP, Kafka, and data modeling. You will collaborate across teams and own components end-to-end.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in fullstack, backend or platform software engineering.
• Strong software engineering foundation with Python.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native systems (GCP).
• Experience with relational databases and production schema evolution.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Kinesis).
• Ability to move between domains such as authorization, messaging, and data pipelines.
• Strong product instincts and customer-focused system judgment.
• Self-directed and proactive, with collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate platform services and schemas end to end.
• Create composable abstractions and well-defined interfaces for product teams.
• Design scalable and reliable system interactions and data flows.
• Balance scalability, reliability, security, and performance in architectural decisions.
• Build and evolve monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and testing pipelines.
• Identify recurring patterns and reduce operational toil through abstractions, tooling, and AI-assisted tooling.
• Partner with product engineering, data, infrastructure, and feature teams.
• Own platform components end to end and drive their reliability and evolution.
