Job summary

Ava Labs is seeking a Staff Engineer for the Platform Engineering Group to maintain AvalancheGo and lead node-domain initiatives across consensus, P2P networking, state sync, VM interface, and C-Chain integration.

You will set engineering standards, drive reliability, mentor engineers, and guide release quality while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, production-ready infrastructure for the Avalanche network.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership at staff/lead level.
• Expert-level Go programming and system design for large-scale distributed services.
• Significant open source experience with public code reviews and design docs.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems (consensus, P2P, state sync).
• Strong testing discipline across unit to end-to-end tests and CI workflows.
• Experience with release engineering, backward compatibility, and network upgrades.

Responsibilities

• Own AvalancheGo maintenance and evolution of core node components.
• Set and enforce engineering standards for production quality systems.
• Design and advance Avalanche’s critical node systems (consensus, networking, VM interface, EVM integration).
• Establish observability, define SLOs, and lead incident reviews and postmortems.
• Lead release processes: versioning, upgrades, and testing metrics.
