Job summary

Vultr is seeking a highly skilled Senior Platform Engineer to own and evolve our DNS infrastructure. The role demands hands-on management of production DNS systems, strong Linux and networking skills, and leadership across engineering teams to modernize internal services, including API development in PHP, Go, or Rust.

You will drive automation, collaborate with network teams, and contribute to the observability stack to ensure reliability and performance for global cloud services.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering in production.
• Deep hands-on DNS experience including recursive and authoritative DNS, DNSSEC, and troubleshooting.
• Strong Linux fundamentals and production service ownership.
• Experience building or maintaining APIs or automation layers, with PHP and/or Go or Rust.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration tooling.

Responsibilities

• Own and operate Vultr's DNS infrastructure at scale, including recursive DNS, reverse DNS, and authoritative DNS.
• Maintain and evolve the PHP-based DNS API, with potential modernization in Go or Rust.
• Diagnose and resolve complex DNS/network incidents as a subject-matter expert.
• Drive automation and IaC across platform services to improve reliability.
• Collaborate with network teams on BGP route reflectors and platform tooling.
• Contribute to observability using Grafana, Loki, and Mimir for service health.

Vultr is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Platform Engineer to own and evolve our critical DNS infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a seasoned infrastructure engineer with deep DNS expertise, strong Linux and networking fundamentals, and the ability to own and modernize complex internal services end-to-end. Key Responsibilities

• Own and operate Vultr's DNS infrastructure at scale, including recursive DNS (Knot
• Resolver), reverse DNS, authoritative DNS, and integrations with PowerDNS instances.
• Maintain and evolve the PHP-based DNS API, contributing to its long-term direction
• including potential modernization in Go or Rust.
• Diagnose and resolve complex DNS and network incidents, serving as a subject matter
• expert across the organization.
• Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code practices across platform services,
• reducing toil and improving reliability.
• Collaborate with network and infrastructure teams on adjacent systems including BGP
• route reflectors and broader platform tooling.
• Contribute to observability and operational excellence by leveraging the team's
• monitoring stack (Grafana, Loki, Mimir) to improve visibility into DNS and platform
• service health.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or systems engineering in a production environment.
• Deep hands-on experience with DNS at scale — including recursive and authoritative
• DNS, DNSSEC, zone management, and troubleshooting complex resolution failures.
• Strong Linux systems engineering fundamentals including networking, service
• management, and operational ownership of production services.
• Experience building or maintaining APIs or automation layers, with proficiency in PHP
• and/or Go or Rust.
• Demonstrated experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management
• tooling (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).

Compensation

$125,000 - $135,000

Final compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.
