Job summary

The City of Fresno is seeking a Supervising Plans Examiner to lead a team responsible for enforcing fire, life safety, accessibility, and structural code compliance on public and private construction projects within Fresno. This role manages staff, oversees plan reviews, and coordinates with other departments to ensure timely permit processing while maintaining high standards of safety and code compliance.

A valid driver's license is required, and certification as Building Inspector or Plans

Qualifications

• Four (4) years experience equivalent to that gained as a Plans Examiner III with the City of Fresno.
• Two (2) years of progressively responsible lead experience which includes assigning, reviewing and coordinating work of subordinate staff in architecture, engineering, construction, code enforcement, permit or plan review, inspection or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff engaged in enforcing codes, ordinances, and regulations related to fire, life and health safety requirements, accessibility standards, and structural elements of construction for city projects.
• Oversee plan reviews and coordination with other departments to ensure timely permit processing and code compliance.
• Maintain certification requirements and ensure staff obtain Building Inspector or Plans Examiner certification within the first two years of employment.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field
