Job summary
SAFEbuilt is seeking a talented, experienced Senior Plans Examiner to join our team in a remote Texas role. You will perform non-structural plan reviews for commercial, industrial, and residential projects and work with municipal clients.
This position offers opportunities to use your ICC certifications, stay current with the International Building Codes, and collaborate with a national network of professionals.
Qualifications
- 4-7 years of Commercial Plans Examiner experience, either with a municipality or 3rd party firm.
- ICC Plans Examiner Certifications required
- ICC Trades Plans Examiner certifications preferred
- ICC Building Official or Master Code Professional certification preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide complete non-structural plan reviews of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Reviews all plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with adopted codes by city, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Part of the plan review process includes basic zoning, such as building setbacks, height restrictions, etc., as outlined in the city ordinances.
- Attend preconstruction conferences with contractors and/or developers and associated staff members.
- Provides technical direction and assistance to inspection personnel relating to field problems.
- Assess and resolve complaints received from clients, applicants, the public, designers, and contractors.
- Regularly interacts directly with municipal clients and their staff.
- Attends meetings, educational seminars, and functions relating to building codes.

We are seeking a talented, experienced Senior Plans Examiner to join our team. This position offers a great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. - Provide complete non-structural plan reviews of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Reviews all plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with adopted codes by city, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Part of the plan review process includes basic zoning, such as building setbacks, height restrictions, etc., as outlined in the city ordinances.

- Basic knowledge of land development processes, including zoning regulations, land entitlements, and public infrastructure construction.
- Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
- Proficiency in permitting software and digital plan review tools.
- Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other clientele.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment.
- Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into company software programs.
- Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced atmosphere.
- Candidate must stay familiar and up to date with different editions of the International Building Codes.
- Strong computer skills, including Bluebeam, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent conflict resolution and professional communication skills, both via email and verbally.
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- 4-7 years of Commercial Plans Examiner experience, either with a municipality or 3rd party firm
- ICC Plans Examiner Certifications required
- ICC Trades Plans Examiner certifications preferred
- ICC Building Official or Master Code Professional certification preferred
