Job summary

City of Clovis, California seeks a senior planner to plan and coordinate complex planning tasks, supervise staff, and present findings to the Planning Commission and City Council.

The role requires a degree in Planning or related field, four years of professional planning experience including one year of supervisory responsibility; master's degree is desirable. You will interpret state/local planning laws and work with multiple departments.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in Planning, Public Administration, Urban Geography, or a closely related field.
• A Master's Degree in one of the above fields is desirable.
• Four (4) years of professional planning experience, including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
• Experience in current planning, including preparation and supervision of staff reports, knowledge of the specific plans process, and design review.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and participates in the preparation of major components of the overall City land use planning programs; plans, directs, and reviews the work of assigned staff.
• Assists in the development of planning goals, policies, and priorities; coordinates and participates in complex planning studies.
• Prepares reports and makes oral presentations to the Planning Commission and City Council; interprets State and local planning laws and City development policy.
• Acts on behalf of the City and the Planning Department at conferences and public meetings; trains and supervises assigned staff.
• Evaluates the work of subordinates and maintains effective working relationships with officials and the public.
