Job summary

NJTPA seeks a Principal Planner in Transportation Technology and Operations to lead the integration of cutting-edge transportation technology into regional planning initiatives and capital investments, guiding research, data analytics, and policy development.

You will collaborate with NJDOT, NJ TRANSIT, ITS-NJ, and other partners to advance ITS, connected and autonomous vehicle technology, microtransit, and data applications, while promoting equity and sustainability across all modes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, planning, public policy, or related field.
• Three years of applied experience integrating transportation technology into planning.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong computer background including database management and analytical tools.
• Proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Education/experience may be substituted with equivalent combination per university discretion.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and analyze trends related to the development of transportation technology and data analytics.
• Assist in developing strategies and applications of transportation technology to improve mobility and accessibility.
• Represent the NJTPA on stakeholder groups and prepare reports and presentations.
• Support planning programs and studies with data analysis and policy guidance.
• Participate in Technical Advisory Committees and contribute to ITS projects.
