Job summary

The City of Redmond seeks a Senior Planner to lead diverse planning projects and advance city initiatives in urban design, land use and transportation. You will coordinate with multiple departments, councils and external agencies to deliver comprehensive plans and code updates.

The role requires strong analytical and communication skills, public engagement, and the ability to manage complex projects while maintaining deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in urban planning or related discipline.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 4–6 years of professional planning experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, experience and training accepted.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a planning project/program lead across storm water, watershed, parks, transportation, human services, environmental and land use planning.
• Develops and implements program criteria, policies and management plans; defines scope, conducts research, analyzes data, and presents recommendations.
• Manages projects from scope to consultant selection and design refinement, including budgeting and scheduling.
• Prepares technical reports on comprehensive plan updates, zoning and code updates, master plans and studies.
• Coordinates with internal departments and external agencies; communicates with City Council and boards/commissions.
• Facilitates public outreach meetings and explains program issues to diverse audiences.
• Performs code research and provides technical assistance interpreting codes and regulations.
• Reviews land use and zoning permit applications for compliance and conducts field audits as necessary.
• Staffs and coordinates meetings for commissions and boards; prepares agendas and materials.
• Identifies and underwrites grants for programs and coordinates grant administration.
• Reviews consultant work, negotiates contracts and monitors payments; assists in budget development.
