Position: Senior Planned Giving Officer

Location:Regional (Midwest)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: The estimated salary range for this role is $81,850 - $106,400. This represents UUSA's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, specialized skills, and training.

Position Description

The Senior Planned Giving Officer will report directly to the Vice President of Planned Giving. This role will manage a portfolio of donors to support and grow all areas of Individual Philanthropy including major and principal giving activity for UUSA. The position requires a demonstrated track record of securing blended gifts of six figures and above as well as outstanding professionalism, strong self-motivation, strategic thinking, and attention to detail. All other duties and responsibilities, as assigned by the VPPG.

Position Responsibilities:

Portfolio Management (45%):

  • Manage portfolio of 300+ Legacy Circle donors, providing stewardship to secure planned gifts while identifying additional cultivation/outright giving opportunities. This includes but is not limited to personalized communications, programmatic updates, and individual meetings
  • Proactive outreach to high scoring planned giving prospects to educate and encourage benefits of planned giving opportunities – making 2,000 contacts per year
  • Prepare complex gift illustrations for life income gifts, such as gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, and pooled income fund gifts
  • Oversee data management for tracking and reporting donor activity and strategies for Planned Giving
Lead Generation (30%):
  • Assist with marketing program which includes writing copy, editing proofs, data management, and coordinating with Marcoms, Global Programs, and external vendors.
  • Strategize with other teams outside the Individual Philanthropy pillar to seek opportunities to promote planned giving
Training and Internal Consulting (25%)
  • Facilitate and lead quarterly meetings with Major and Principal Giving colleagues to review individual portfolios and discuss blended giving opportunities
  • Host weekly office hours to provide guidance and education on technical aspects of planned giving and updates on legislative changes impacting estate planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) required
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience preferred in a fundraising role at a major not-for-profit organization, preferably within a human rights organization
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in planned giving
  • Experience identifying and cultivating potential planned giving donors
  • Proven track record securing major gifts preferred
  • Excellent judgment and sensitivity to interpersonal and organizational dynamics
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with high-level individuals including board members and volunteers
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain solid working relationships with staff and leaders in UNICEF and UNICEF USA
  • Ability to make independent decisions that impact the program and fundraising efforts
  • Strategic thinker and process-minded problem solver
