Job summary

Holtec is seeking a Senior Piping Engineer to lead the development and delivery of complete piping systems for SMR projects. You will coordinate activities from P&IDs through layout, stress analysis, materials, welding, procurement, and construction, ensuring interfaces across disciplines are resolved.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of piping experience on water, steam, and gas systems.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of piping codes (ASME B&PV, B31.1 and B31.3).
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complete piping systems from design through fabrication and installation.
  • Experience performing technical bid evaluations and vendor management.
  • Knowledgeable about pipe stress analysis and pipe support design.
  • Eligible to work in accord with Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810; PE license preferred

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred

Job description

The Senior Piping Engineer coordinates the development and delivery of complete piping systems for the SMR projects. A Senior Piping Engineer will integrate the piping activities from the development of the P&IDs by System Engineering, through the layout performed by Design Development, the stress analysis & piping support engineering performed by Applied Mechanics, solicit input from Materials Specialists on the selection of piping materials, the Welding Engineer on any special welding requirements, work with Procurement for the purchase of the piping systems including managing technical issues with vendors, and work with Construction on piping related issues during planning and actual construction.

Important Eligibility Requirement: This position involves work subject to U.S. Department of Energy regulations under 10 CFR Part 810. Candidates must be legally eligible to obtain authorization to work with certain nuclear technologies and technical information. Eligibility will be evaluated as part of the hiring process.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support the translation of P&IDs, system requirements, design criteria, and equipment data into complete piping system designs.
  • Develop and coordinate piping material class code specifications including selecting piping materials based on project requirements, cost, suitability, corrosion, and other factors.
  • Support the Project to ensure that line lists, piping classes, design pressures and temperatures, materials, corrosion allowances, insulation requirements, and testing requirements are consistent and appropriate.
  • Develop and refine piping design requirements.
  • Coordinate piping layouts & routing, considering operability, maintainability, constructability, drainage, venting, seismic and interface requirements.
  • Review isometric drawings and bills of materials.
  • Co-ordinate with pipe stress and support engineering.
  • Co-ordinate with engineers responsible for valves, specialty items, and equipment.
  • Support procurement by developing purchase specifications, supporting purchase requisitions, performing technical bid evaluations, and reviewing vendor documentation.
  • Mange technical issues with piping vendors by overseeing material delivery and pipe spool fabrication, reviewing vendor documentation, inspection & testing and delivery
  • Support construction from planning to installation, field change resolutions, testing, and turnover.
  • Lead interdisciplinary piping design reviews and resolve technical interfaces among System Engineering, piping design, pipe stress, pipe supports, equipment engineering, materials, welding, procurement, vendors, and construction.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of piping experience on water, steam, and gas systems for power generation, naval nuclear, oil & gas, or industrial projects.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong knowledge of piping codes (ASME B&PV, ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3), specifications, drawings, materials, fabrication, and installation practices.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating complete piping systems from design through fabrication and installation.
  • Experience performing technical bid evaluations and vendor management.
  • Knowledgeable about pipe stress analysis and pipe support design.
  • Ability to interface effectively with multiple engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and organize work tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and capable of producing error-free documents.
  • Strong problem-solving and computer skills.
  • Eligible to work in accord with Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preffered
