Job summary

Belcan is seeking a Principal Lead Piping Designer (S3D) to drive detailed piping design and 3D modeling for complex projects. You will work under the Piping Lead with project managers and discipline leads to deliver safe, on-time, and within-budget results.

Responsibilities include creating S3D models, 2D deliverables, clash detection, and documentation updates. The role requires extensive brownfield experience and leadership across engineering teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of piping design experience (brownfield preferred).
• Advanced proficiency with Hexagon SmartPlant 3D (S3D) and CAD tools.
• Experience with laser scanning technologies, Leica preferred.
• Strong knowledge of piping systems, plant layouts, and standards.
• Familiarity with 3D model QC, validation and reviews.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify 3D piping models using S3D.
• Generate 2D deliverables: isometrics and orthographic drawings.
• Perform clash detection and resolve constructability issues.
• Support project execution with tracking, troubleshooting, and expediting materials.
• Create and maintain line/tie-in/valve lists and piping packages.
• Redline P&IDs and reflect scope changes; coordinate reviews.
• Collaborate across disciplines to ensure project success.
• Assist commissioning/start-up activities as needed.

Job Title: Principal Lead Piping Designer (S3D)

Pay rate: $70 - $72/hr.

Position Overview

As a Principal Lead Piping Designer, this individual will play a key role in the execution of engineering projects by developing detailed piping designs and 3D models. Working under the direction of the Piping Lead, the designer will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Discipline Leads, and Operations Representatives to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and modify 3D piping models using Hexagon SmartPlant 3D (S3D).
• Generate 2D deliverables, including isometrics and orthographic drawings.
• Perform clash detection analysis using laser scans and resolve constructability issues.
• Support project execution through progress tracking, troubleshooting, and expediting critical piping materials.
• Generate and maintain technical documentation, including line lists, tie-in lists, valve lists, and piping design packages.
• Redline and update P&IDs to reflect project scope and changes.
• Collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines to support project success.
• Coordinate and participate in model reviews to ensure compliance with business and technical requirements.
• Adhere to company standards, piping specifications, and engineering best practices.
• Assist with commissioning and start-up activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of piping design experience, including significant brownfield engineering experience.
• Advanced proficiency with Hexagon SmartPlant 3D (S3D), CAD software, and related drafting tools.
• Experience with laser scanning technologies, preferably Leica.
• Strong knowledge of piping systems, plant layouts, piping specifications, and applicable industry standards.
• Familiarity with plant breakdown structures and naming conventions.
• Experience with 3D model quality control, validation, and review processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical mentoring skills.
