Job summary

Upchurch, a rapidly growing full-service building engineering company, seeks an experienced pipefitter for commercial and industrial projects across the Southeast US. You will read blueprints, coordinate with other trades, and install piping systems including carbon steel, stainless, copper, and PVC.

5+ years of pipefitting experience, an apprenticeship or equivalent, and the ability to work in confined spaces are required. Valid driver’s license is a must.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a pipefitter in commercial or industrial mechanical construction.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, drawings, and P&IDs.
• Ability to measure, cut, fit, and assemble piping systems.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, spool sheets, P&IDs, and job specifications.
• Plan installation sequencing and coordinate work to avoid conflicts with other trades.
• Select appropriate pipe materials and sizes based on project requirements.
• Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, and assemble piping using hand and power tools.
• Layout and install piping systems including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, and other materials.
• Join piping using threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented, or welded methods.
• Install pipe supports including hangers, brackets, clamps, and restraints in accordance with code.
• Assist welders with pipe preparation, alignment, and fit-up.
• Install and maintain mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, meters, and controls.
• Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and leak testing using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
• Inspect worksites to identify obstructions and verify structural integrity.
• Ensure all work meets applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe and working condition.
• Follow OSHA regulations and company safety protocols at all times, including PPE usage.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades.
