Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Newport News Shipbuilding division, is seeking qualified welders with a minimum of 10 years of pipe welding experience for Newport News, Virginia. This full-time role offers relocation assistance, a sign-on bonus, and competitive benefits.

Welders will be trained at the shipyard welding school and perform welds on steel foundations and joints for aircraft carriers and submarines using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of pipe welding experience.
• Must have previously worked for NNS for at least 1.5 years.
• Must be able to take measurements or be willing to learn.
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.
• Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
• Must be able to pass a Physical Agility Test.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural and pipe welds in ship construction using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW.
• Welds are performed in all positions with manual and mechanized processes.
• Complete nondestructive tests requirements (visual, magnetic, ultrasonic, radiographic).
• Receive training including inspection, fire watch, carbon arc, and equipment troubleshooting.
