Job summary

University of Michigan in Ann Arbor seeks a PIANO TEACHER to oversee Class Piano coordination and the Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program (PPLP). The role requires directing 45 class piano sections, supervising GSIs, and delivering 15–20 private lessons weekly alongside group instruction.

You will ensure NASM-aligned curriculum integrity, oversee exams, and foster inclusive learning for diverse students. On-site, full-time, with evening/weekend flexibility.

Qualifications

• For education-level requirements, Doctoral DMA in Piano Pedagogy or Piano Performance; Master's with exceptional experience considered.
• Significant experience in pre-college group and private piano teaching.
• Curriculum development and implementation for pre-college students.
• Familiarity with Royal Conservatory or equivalent assessment programs is preferred.
• Experience with collegiate class piano curricula and large-scale program coordination.
• Proficiency with LMS (Canvas), Google Workspace, and keyboard lab tech.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
• Flexible evenings and weekend availability; eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Teach 15–20 private lessons per week (Sept–Apr).
• Lead 3–4 group classes weekly with cohesive curricula.
• Continue PPLP instruction during summer months and prepare materials.
• Develop weekly lesson plans and assessment rubrics.
• Prepare students for recitals, masterclasses, and exams.
• Coordinate recital logistics, music library, and canvassed content.
• Maintain Canvas sites and digital resources for PPLP.
• Foster inclusive learning environments for diverse backgrounds.
