Job summary

A Los Angeles law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Attorney to join its plaintiff-side Personal Injury practice. You will oversee matters from initial case evaluation through trial preparation, with opportunities to lead cases and collaborate with seasoned trial attorneys.

The ideal candidate has CA bar, 7+ years PI experience, strong civil litigation, deposition experience, and skill in evaluating liability and damages.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and active California Bar membership.
• Substantial hands-on civil litigation experience.
• Strong legal research, writing, advocacy and client-communication skills.
• Experience taking and defending depositions.
• Ability to independently develop cases and prepare matters for trial.
• Experience evaluating liability, damages and case value.
• Ability to negotiate meaningful settlements.
• Familiarity with medical records and expert witnesses in PI matters.
• Spanish fluency is desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develop litigation strategy and manage cases from filing through resolution or trial.
• Evaluate liability, damages, settlement potential and litigation strategy.
• Draft complaints, pleadings, motions, briefs and other substantive documents.
• Propound and respond to written discovery and resolve disputes.
• Prepare clients and witnesses for depositions, hearings and trial.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Identify, retain and prepare medical and other expert witnesses.
• Conduct legal research and develop arguments involving complex liability and damages issues.
• Represent clients at mediations, hearings, conferences and other court proceedings.
• Negotiate settlements and participate in ADR.
• Prepare cases for trial, including motions in limine and witness examinations.
• Work with clients regarding treatment, case development and strategy.
• Oversee paralegals and litigation support staff.
• Review medical records and evidence relevant to damages.
• Evaluate liens, insurance issues and other considerations affecting resolution.
