About the Technology Team: The Technology Team at K12 Coalition serves as a central services team for the entire organization, supporting all four divisions and acting as part of the corporate team. Our role is to provide robust, scalable technology solutions that empower each division to meet its goals while ensuring alignment with the broader organizational objectives. As a central resource, we collaborate across functions to deliver impactful solutions that enhance operational efficiency, user experience, and strategic outcomes.

Location: Remote, available from anywhere within the U.S.

Travel: Up to 10% for team meetings and conferences as needed.

The Opportunity

Join our dynamic corporate Technology Team that values innovation and collaboration while supporting all divisions across K12 Coalition. We seek a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our team as a Development Lead. This pivotal role involves deep technical expertise and strong communication and leadership skills. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders, lead development projects, and work closely with end users across our divisions to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable solutions.

This role is perfect for a proactive problem-solver who thrives in a collaborative environment and has the technical depth to architect innovative solutions while ensuring the development of best practices.

The Senior PHP/WordPress Developer will report to the Chief Technology Officer.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize WordPress websites, themes, and plugins.
  • Write clean, efficient, well-documented PHP and MySQL code.
  • Perform testing, including unit and quality assurance testing, to ensure robust and error-free deliverables.
  • Collaborate across functions (designers, product owners, marketing, and other developers) to align project requirements and outcomes.
  • Communicate directly with end users to gather feedback, understand needs, and translate them into actionable development plans.
  • Architect and implement scalable, secure, and efficient solutions for web projects.
  • Perform detailed code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Identify and address security vulnerabilities, implementing best practices to safeguard applications (e.g., protection against XSS and SQL Injection).
  • Optimize website performance and enhance SEO through code and infrastructure improvements.
  • Track and analyze website performance using tools like Google Analytics, and integrate tracking solutions where needed.
  • Other Duties: Support the team with additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to help meet evolving organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of demonstrable experience as a WordPress developer, with expertise in PHP and MySQL.
  • Proven ability to build and customize WordPress themes and plugins.
  • Strong understanding of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and APIs (especially REST API).
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or Azure DevOps.
  • Familiarity with modern frameworks, tools, and design systems for web development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with end users, gather feedback, and deliver user-centric solutions.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles, including designing scalable and maintainable systems.
  • Experience conducting code reviews and ensuring compliance with development standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of security best practices in WordPress and web development.
  • Proficiency in analytics and tracking, including integrating and optimizing tools like Google Analytics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solution-oriented and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with hosting platforms (e.g., cPanel, AWS, or VPS environments).
  • Background in optimizing website performance and SEO.
  • Understanding of Python for accessing APIs and returning data.
  • Familiarity with UX/UI design principles.

Compensation Range

The compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000. As part of our commitment to pay equity, new hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the salary band minimum and the salary band midpoint, depending on qualifications, location, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
