Job summary

Cloudbeds is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to deliver scalable, high-quality services worldwide. You will shape core architecture for hotel rates and availability within a remote-first, globally distributed team.

You will drive design, write robust code, and modernize legacy systems while collaborating with leadership and cross-functional partners. Strong PHP/Java skills and MySQL expertise are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience using object-oriented principles in PHP or Java.
• 2+ years of experience with Laravel, Symfony, or similar frameworks.
• Strong business sense and ability to collaborate with leadership on visible projects.
• Expert knowledge of relational databases, indexing, and searching technologies (MySQL).
• Passion for data-informed development, metrics, experimentation, and rapid prototyping.
• Solid knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and testing practices.
• Experience with complex data structures and inventory cache systems is a plus.
• Business-level English fluency (verbal and written).

Responsibilities

• Lead technical discussions around complex systems and domain logic with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Write clean, well-tested, well-documented, maintainable code.
• Contribute to migrating core platform toward a modern microservices architecture.
• Maintain legacy monoliths as part of modernization efforts.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deliver scalable features.
• Promote engineering excellence through best practices in code quality and architecture.
• Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and take initiative.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity and code quality.
