Job summary

Lightmatter is hiring a Sr. Staff Photonics Systems Engineer to join the laser development team.

You will develop integrated and scalable laser solutions for silicon photonics AI communications and computation, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to meet architectural specifications. You will navigate multi-domain design tradeoffs, drive feasibility studies, and deliver validated hardware and software integration.

Qualifications

• PhD in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related discipline with at least 3 years post-degree experience
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in photonic devices and photonic integrated circuits
• Strong understanding of silicon photonics
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams
• Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders and teams
• Proven problem-solving skills for non-obvious engineering challenges

Responsibilities

• Engage with a cross-functional team to design and deliver a successful high-volume laser product
• Collaborate with product and architecture teams to drive new laser concepts
• Work closely with hardware and software teams to translate high level laser requirements into a detailed engineering plan
• Resolve design and manufacturing challenges for innovative high-performance laser solutions
• Collaborate across electronics, photonics, mechanical, thermal, and packaging teams to build laser systems and control ASICs that meet performance and production goals
• Define production test and validation protocols with control-system and test engineers
• Coordinate with external vendors to ensure timely development and delivery of key processes and components
