Job summary

Brightlight Photonics in Cambridge, MA seeks a PhD-level photonics engineer to co-lead the development of on-chip photonic devices from concept to characterization.

You will design, simulate, and lay out sapphire photonic circuits, build measurement setups, and collaborate with fabrication and product teams while presenting results at conferences and guiding growing teams.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or related fields.
• Strong theoretical background in optics and photonics.
• Extensive experience with optics or photonics experiment.

Responsibilities

• Co-lead the photonics engineering process from idea conception to device characterization.
• Take ownership over the measurement process, designing experiments and building setups.
• Design and simulate on-chip sapphire photonic circuits and supporting production equipment.
• Layout circuits for fabrication.
• Collaborate with fabrication and product development teams.
• Engage in collaborative R&D projects with academic and industry partners and present at conferences.
• Lead future leadership roles as the photonics team grows.
