Job summary

W3Global in Cupertino, California, seeks a highly qualified PhD in a photonics-related field to lead the design of integrated photonic devices for high-speed interconnects. The role covers passive and active device design, chip layout, simulations, and measurement methodologies to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions in a fast-paced R&D environment.

You will work on HFSS/ADS-based RF design, photonics design tools, and GDS-based scripting for full chip layouts, with exposure to wafer

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Optics, or Physics; semiconductor laser industry experience required.
• 3+ years of relevant industry experience preferred.
• Experience with RF design and simulation tools for designing electro-optical devices (HFSS, ADS).
• Experience with photonics design and simulation tools such as Ansys/Lumerical, RSoft, Photon Design, or Tidy3D.
• Experience with script-based GDS layout of photonics components, circuits, and full product chips using GDSFactory or IPKISS.
• Experience in wafer processing, packaging/testing, reliability, and failure analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop integrated photonic devices for high-speed optical interconnect applications.
• Conduct passive device design, including couplers, splitters, PSR, and WDM components.
• Conduct active optical device design, including MZM and MRM.
• Perform chip layout generation, circuit design, and circuit simulation.
• Develop measurement methodologies and plans to test and characterize fabricated devices.
