Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience.
• BS/BA degree preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy certificate (if required by state).

Responsibilities

• Verifies test requisitions against nursing station log and notes discrepancies.
• Obtains blood specimens via venipuncture and finger sticks.
• Maintains specimen integrity using aseptic technique and department procedures.
• Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.
• Maintains quality results by following procedures and logging results.
• Ensures safe, compliant work environment and HIPAA/PHI privacy training.
• Resolves unusual test orders with physician, pathologist or reference lab.
• Keeps knowledge up-to-date through continued education and professional involvement.
• Manages patient reports and billing questions; schedules courier pickups.
