Job summary

MD Anderson's Pharmacy Division in Houston is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician for a full-time, onsite role. The ideal candidate has at least two years of hospital, retail, or infusion pharmacy experience and current Texas State Board of Pharmacy registration.

Working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., four days a week, including weekends and holidays. The position offers a competitive hourly pay range and a comprehensive benefits package starting on day one.

  • Active registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Responsibilities

  • Process complex insurance issues and handle ATC, non-sterile compounds and chemotherapy medications with accuracy.
  • Receive, stock, and manage inventory; coordinate with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Assist in training new and current pharmacy staff.

Ideal candidate

A experienced Pharmacy Technician with at least two years of hands-on experience in a retail, infusion, or hospital pharmacy setting. They bring a strong understanding of specialized pharmacy functions and maintain active registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a proven ability to adapt within a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Working Hours

The Working hours will be 8:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. (4 days/week; includes weekends & holidays). Onsite required.

Hourly Breakdown

Minimum - $23.80 - Midpoint - $29.81 - Maximum - $35.82

Key Responsibilities
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
  • Processes complex insurance issues accurately and efficiently (HAR creation, URN, PFA, PAP). Prepares ATC, ambulance, non-sterile compounds, Investigations and chemotherapy medications accurately and efficiently. Meets productivity guidelines while maintaining an accuracy rate of 95%.
  • Productivity stats must not vary 20% below the area's average in these categories: Order Entry, Tech Dispensing, POS, and Delivery
  • Participates in new and current pharmacy employee training
  • Receives orders and stocks medications and supplies from wholesaler and Inventory Control accurately and efficiently. Process returns and recalls as needed to the appropriate vendor.
  • Ensures adequate inventory during the fill process and adjusting as necessary
  • Notifies appropriate personnel at MDA and/or various vendors to resolve issues
  • Technician Duties plus other duties as assigned

Requirements
Education Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Education Preferred

Certificate from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or two years of college credit.

Licensure Required

Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Experience Required

Two years pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center or retail pharmacy.

Preferred Experience

Pharmacy experience in a variety of specialized areas and functions.

Supervision Given

None.

Other Required

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
