Qualifications

• Certification as Pharmacy Technician (PTCB or ExCPT) is required for GS-07 and above.
• Knowledge of pharmacy principles, practices, and theories for sound independent work.
• Ability to resolve pharmacy/medication issues with healthcare team and customers.
• Ability to train developmental technicians and students.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interprets, fills, and prepares prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
• Maintain clean, orderly work areas with stock and equipment properly stored.
• Store and secure drugs and supplies per USP and VA guidelines.
• Receive, check, rotate, and stock items from procurement; reconcile discrepancies.
• Utilize automation dispensing equipment following safety and QA procedures.
• Record expiration dates in the dispensing system; inspect areas monthly for expiring meds.
• Compound and/or reconstitute oral or external medications (non-sterile) following procedures.
• Perform duties of lower grade technicians as needed and participate in training programs.
