Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree Nursing, Perfusion/circulation technology, Allied Health required.
• Master's Degree Nursing, Perfusion/circulation technology, Allied Health required.
• Experience as a perfusionist required.
• ABCP Cardiovascular Perfusionists certification required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs, assesses, and manages perfusion procedures.
• Interprets physician medication orders for accuracy and appropriateness; informs physician of errors or discrepancies and suggests appropriate therapy.
• Maintains aseptic techniques related to perfusion and autotransfusion services throughout procedures.
• Reviews patient history/chart with surgeon/anesthesiologist to obtain information for setup of heart-lung machine.
• Selects and tests heart-lung machine; ensures equipment functions per specifications.
• Operates heart-lung machine to regulate circulation, drug administration, and temperature during surgery or respiratory failure.
• Monitors and adjusts physiological parameters during procedures to meet physician requirements.
• Administers drugs via extracorporeal circuit as directed.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and performs routine calibration/parts replacement.
• Supports department needs and may stay on campus during severe weather or disasters.
