AES Clean Energy is seeking an experienced Senior Performance Engineer to support engineering, construction, and operations teams by analyzing the performance of photovoltaic and battery storage projects during construction, commissioning, and operation.

This role involves bridging the gap between projects in construction and long-term operation by analyzing production data, troubleshooting commissioning issues, conducting performance tests such as ASTM E2848, battery capacity testing, and assisting operations teams.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with photovoltaic and energy storage systems, understanding of plant physics, Li-ion chemistry, interconnection standards, SCADA, and networking. Experience with PV and BESS systems ranging from 5 MW to 600 MW is preferred.

The position is based in Louisville, CO, with up to 30% travel to project sites and partner offices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Execution and Operation:
   • Test and verify SCADA systems for accuracy
   • Analyze data to identify underperformance sources
   • Conduct performance and capacity tests
   • Evaluate proposals for analysis services
   • Troubleshoot operational systems and review performance data
   • Collaborate with engineers to manage project timelines
2. Project Development:
   • Review production estimates and meteorological data
   • Review contracts related to performance testing
3. Engineering Support:
   • Assist operations in troubleshooting and developing repair plans
   • Design solutions for system repairs and modifications
4. Growth and Leadership:
   • Improve project execution processes
   • Mentor team members on technology trends and safety
   • Contribute to strategic planning and process improvements

Skills and Qualifications

Primary Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field
• 10+ years of experience in performance engineering of PV and BESS systems
• Proficiency with data analysis tools like Python, SAS, R, etc.
• Experience with SCADA systems and networking
• Ability to obtain a TWIC card within 90 days
• Field experience with PV or battery projects
• Strong communication and planning skills
• Problem-solving aptitude and sense of urgency

Plus Qualifications:

• PE license or progress towards it
• Advanced degrees in engineering
• Additional experience with PV and BESS design and interconnection
• Spanish language skills
• OSHA safety certification
• Availability to work across U.S. time zones
• Experience with ML/AI for performance analysis
