Job summary

Seasats in San Diego seeks a Senior Perception Software Engineer to advance the perception stack for unmanned surface vehicles, turning radar and camera data into a real-time environmental picture and deploying algorithms while optimizing for embedded hardware.

You will own architecture and technical direction, lead design efforts, and mentor engineers, collaborating with vehicle software, UI, and operations to deliver actionable displays and robust perception pipelines in challenging ocean

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years on perception problems in fielded systems.
• Real-time sensor data processing on embedded or compute-limited platforms.
• Experience with classical perception algorithms: clustering, segmentation, filtering, sensor fusion, and probabilistic tracking.
• Familiarity with modern computer vision models and ML components.
• Expert-level Python with NumPy/SciPy/OpenCV and performance profiling.
• Solid grounding in 3D geometry and sensor calibration.
• Ability to architect subsystems, lead technical efforts, and mentor engineers.
• Strong technical communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and implementation of perception algorithms for detection, tracking, avoidance, and state estimation.
• Integrate ML models into the perception pipeline and decide between ML and classical approaches.
• Optimize code for real-time execution on embedded platforms.
• Build tests and expand our simulation environment to rigorously evaluate algorithms and prevent regressions.
• Collaborate with vehicle software, UI, and operations teams to translate perception into intuitive displays for operators.
• Lead sensor selection and evaluation, balancing performance, power, and cost.
• Mentor teammates and elevate software engineering practices across the perception stack.
• Test and tune algorithms at local launch sites and in field trials.
