Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Senior Perception Lead to guide perception architecture, CV and sensor fusion for autonomous navigation and mission-critical space systems. You will define strategy and collaborate across autonomy, avionics, and systems teams to integrate perception into flight hardware and software.

The role requires hands-on technical leadership, deep expertise in perception and machine learning, and the ability to influence program direction in a high-stakes environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field (CS/EE/Robotics).
• 8+ years in computer vision, sensor fusion, or perception for autonomous systems.
• Technical leadership without formal management authority.
• Proficiency in C++ and/or Python for perception development.
• Experience with multiple sensors (camera, LIDAR, RADAR, IMU).
• Experience with object detection, tracking, and classification; deep learning is a plus.
• Ability to obtain/maintain U.S. security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and integration of perception algorithms for autonomous navigation and situational awareness.
• Architect and implement CV and sensor fusion pipelines using multiple sensors.
• Define strategy/roadmaps for perception subsystems aligned with autonomy goals.
• Drive algorithms for object detection, tracking, and scene understanding in dynamic environments.
• Establish best practices for testing and validation of perception software.
• Collaborate with autonomy, guidance, avionics, and systems engineering teams to integrate perception into flight systems.
• Mentor junior/mid-level perception engineers without formal supervisory duties.
• Communicate findings and risks to program leadership and customers.
• Stay current with state-of-the-art perception techniques and assess applicability.
