Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals Queens Hospital Center seeks a dedicated peer counselor to support health consumers across emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and home settings. You will collaborate with staff to plan and implement treatment plans, empower clients, and participate in group activities focused on relapse recovery and socialization.

Responsibilities include advocating for consumer needs, maintaining documentation in the EHR, and coordinating with community services.

Qualifications

• Certification as Peer Specialist (NYCPS) or similar for CPEP assignments; or Recovery Peer Advocate certification.
• Completion of a formal Peer Advocate/Counselor/Specialist Training Program or 1 year of full-time satisfactory experience in peer services.
• High school diploma or educational equivalence.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services to health consumers in emergency, inpatient, outpatient, home and specialized settings.
• Assist with planning and implementing treatment plans in collaboration with staff and consumers.
• Lead or co-lead groups on topics such as relapse recovery and socialization.
• Maintain documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and write progress notes.
