We are looking for a Senior PCB Layout Engineer / ECAD Librarian to own board layout discipline, ECAD library quality, manufacturability, and release-package readiness for flight power electronics hardware.
This is a hands-on board-level electrical engineering role focused on turning PPU and spacecraft power electronics designs into buildable, inspectable, repeatable hardware packages.
This is an engineering ownership role, not a narrow PCB drafting position. We need someone who can review layout against circuit intent, manufacturing constraints, standards expectations, high-voltage concerns, and real build feedback.

This role will help make boards easier to build, inspect, debug, release, and repeat. The right engineer will catch avoidable layout, clearance, harness, assembly, inspection, and vendor-package issues before they become program risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own board-level design release discipline for PPU and flight power electronics.
- Review PCB layouts for manufacturability, assembly, inspection, clearance, creepage, grounding, return paths, high-current paths, test access, harnessing, and high-voltage concerns.
- Work with power electronics engineers to translate converter designs into buildable and inspectable PCB layouts.
- Support layout decisions for power stages, control boards, front-end interfaces, sensing, connectors, and support electronics.
- Own or strongly influence ECAD library discipline, including symbols, footprints, 3D models, part metadata, approved-part attributes, and review workflows for KiCad, Altium, or shared parts-database environments.
- Maintain or improve schematic and PCB layout review checklists.
- Review manufacturing packages, fabrication notes, assembly drawings, BOMs, pick-and-place files, Gerbers, drill files, ODB++ or IPC-2581 packages, and vendor feedback.
- Apply IPC and J-STD expectations in a practical way appropriate for flight-power electronics.
- Support connector details, harness interfaces, front-end interfaces, and external system interface implementation.
- Help bridge R&D designs into controlled build packages for prototype, EM, QM, PFM, and FM hardware.
- Work with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, technicians, component engineering, and contract manufacturers to reduce avoidable build issues.
- Participate in bring-up and root-cause investigations when layout, assembly, manufacturing, or interface issues are suspected.
- Help define design release expectations so design packages can be inspected, built, reworked, tested, and repeated.
- Support controlled design changes, redlines, ECOs, rework instructions, and lessons learned from builds.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5+ years of experience in board-level electrical design, PCB layout, manufacturing release, or high-reliability electronics development.
- Strong experience reviewing or creating PCB layouts for real manufacturable hardware.
- Strong understanding of schematic capture, PCB layout, board stackups, fabrication constraints, assembly constraints, test access, and inspection needs.
- Experience with contract manufacturers, board fabrication vendors, assembly vendors, or internal manufacturing teams.
- Familiarity with IPC and J-STD expectations, especially as applied to real board design, assembly, inspection, and rework.
- Ability to challenge designs before release in a constructive, technically grounded way.
- Hands-on bring-up, debug, or root-cause investigation experience.
- Ability to work across electrical, power electronics, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and technician teams.
- Must satisfy U.S. Person requirements for access to export-controlled and government contract-restricted technical work.
Strongly Preferred:
- KiCad experience, especially symbol/footprint control, library ownership, review workflows, and release discipline.
- High-voltage or power electronics PCB layout experience.
- Experience with creepage, clearance, insulation, high-current routing, switching loops, grounding, EMI/EMC, and thermal layout constraints.
- Experience with aerospace, space, defense, medical, automotive, industrial, or other high-reliability electronics.
- Experience supporting prototype, EM, QM, PFM, or FM hardware builds.
- Experience with board-level DFM, DFT, DFMEA, PFMEA, build travelers, inspection criteria, and controlled release packages.
- Experience with harness interfaces, connectors, cable drawings, interconnect drawings, and system-level electrical integration.
- Experience working with EEE parts owners or component engineers on library metadata, approved parts, alternates, lot tracking, and procurement constraints.
- Experience in a startup or small team where design release discipline had to be improved without slowing engineering to a crawl.

U.S. Person Requirement:
This position involves access to flight hardware and technical data controlled under U.S. export control laws. Candidates must therefore qualify as a U.S. Person - a U.S. citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, or an individual granted asylum or refugee status. This requirement stems from federal export regulations, not from a preference regarding citizenship or national origin.
Location and Onsite Expectations:
This role is best suited to someone local to, or regularly able to work from, Loveland, Colorado. The engineer will need meaningful access to hardware builds, design reviews, lab bring-up, manufacturing feedback, and vendor/package discussions.
Some work can be done remotely, including layout review, KiCad library work, documentation, checklist development, and manufacturing package review. However, candidates should expect regular onsite work for design reviews, build support, bring-up, and root-cause investigations.
Compensation and Benefits:
Base salary range: $145,000 – $175,000, depending on experience. Eligible for equity.
