About the team & role

Robinhood is looking for a skilled Senior Payroll Tax Specialist to join our Payroll team. Your role will involve processing payroll and managing tax filings accurately and timely.

As a Senior Payroll Tax Specialist, you will handle payroll for over 2,400 employees, analyzing and managing payroll-related tax issues. Your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with tax laws, regulations, and optimizing tax strategies to minimize liabilities. You will be a key contributor to our team, expanding your understanding of operational and technical payroll processes. This position reports to the Senior Payroll Manager and collaborates with the People, Stock Admin, Benefits, Corporate Tax, and Accounting teams.

This role is preferably located in one of our listed office locations, aligning with our in-office policy. Remote work is limited to certain US regions. Please consult with your recruiter for details.

What you’ll do
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax reporting and withholding responsibilities.
  • Resolve payroll tax irregularities through data analysis and modifications.
  • Establish tax requirements for fringe benefits, deductions, and earnings codes.
  • Research federal, state, and local tax laws to support tax-related decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on tax matters.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for US and global payroll taxes.
  • Reconcile payroll cash and tax liabilities weekly and quarterly.
  • Coordinate year-end adjustments and audits.
  • Manage tax agency notices and responses.
  • Research and resolve payroll tax issues across various agencies.
  • Set up new tax accounts and track their progress.
  • Lead year-end tax reconciliation for US and Canada.
  • Participate in payroll reviews and audits.
  • Address W2 errors and produce necessary tax documents.
  • Review and update tax rates with the stock team.
  • Manage relationships with payroll vendors.
  • Stay updated on payroll tax changes through training.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
What you bring
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with financial data, tax software, and tools.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Research skills for complex tax issues.
  • Organized, with effective time management.
  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, SUMIF, PivotTables).
  • High school diploma or equivalent; degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience in US and Canada tax and payroll processing.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Experience with ADP and Workday systems within the last 5 years.

Salary varies based on location, experience, and market factors. The role's salary range is:

  • Zone 1 (Menlo Park, NY, Bellevue, DC): $115,000 — $135,000 USD
  • Zone 2 (Denver, Westlake, Chicago): $101,000 — $119,000 USD
  • Zone 3 (Florida locations): $89,000 — $105,000 USD
