Job summary

Mercy Health in Youngstown, OH seeks a Senior Payroll Specialist to manage daily payroll processing, audits, and reporting. You will ensure timely payroll cycles, handle taxes, garnishments, and deductions, and serve as the SME for payroll systems.

The role emphasizes compliance with federal, state and local regulations, off-cycle payments, data analysis in Excel, and mentoring Payroll Specialists. Bachelor’s degree preferred, with 1 year payroll experience required; 2+ years preferred.

Qualifications

• 1 year of payroll processing experience (required)
• 2+ years of payroll processing experience (preferred)
• Experience using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) for data analysis (required)

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and process all aspects of payroll, including tax levies, garnishments, taxation, deductions, and special pay.
• Validate pay entries and audits for each payroll cycle to identify abnormalities.
• Review audit reports to identify accuracy issues and correct before processing.
• Ensure compliance with Federal, State and Local payroll regulations.
• Approve off-cycle payments and assist with off-cycle processing per policies.
• Analyze and resolve payroll issues; respond to inquiries and resolve tickets.
• Provide SME support and training to Payroll Specialists on policies and procedures.
• Understand payroll accounting impact on GL, productivity, and budgeting.
• Serve as first contact for associates with payroll questions and research questions related to time and pay calculations.
