Job summary

Teacher Retirement System of Texas seeks a Payroll Coordinator (or Senior) to join the Austin headquarters. You will process domestic payrolls, reconcile automated and manual runs, and support payroll and leave processes across agencies.

Role offers two levels based on education/experience; salary ranges reflect the level. You will engage with statewide systems, auditors, and agency staff to ensure accurate, timely payroll processing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
• Three years of full-time payroll processing and reconciliation experience.
• One year of accounting/financial analysis experience preferred.
• Experience may be concurrent; mastery of CAPPS systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process and reconcile automated and manual domestic employee payrolls in compliance with regulations.
• Assist onboarding/offboarding to statewide payroll system; provide payroll support to staff.
• Audit payrolls and enter personnel actions (merits, promotions, reclassifications, terminations).
• Maintain payroll controls and manage deductions, garnishments, and tax withholdings.
• Develop internal controls for child support, IRS levies, bankruptcies, and other deductions.
• Assist with LWOP, FMLA, retiree detail; compile payroll data and ad hoc reports.
• Coordinate monthly/annual reconciliations and state reporting (ERS, TRUST, TWC).
• Communicate with agencies to research and resolve payroll/leave questions.
