Job summary

Somerset Staffing in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Domain Architect to own the payments domain architecture across Temporal, Kafka, and Azure. You will define boundaries, models, and contracts, guiding multiple teams toward one coherent architecture for payments including auth, capture, refunds, and settlement.

The role is hands-on: prototype designs, review production code, mentor engineers, and coordinate with Finance and other domains to ensure money moves correctly through checkout to the general

Qualifications

• 10+ years engineering with 5+ years building payment systems.
• Domain-driven design: bounded contexts and domain events.
• Expert in C#/.NET 8+ and durable workflow platforms.
• Experience with Temporal or equivalent durable workflow engines.
• Production-grade Kafka and cloud-native architectures.
• PCI DSS and tokenization knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Own domain architecture, roadmap, and key decisions for payments.
• Define domain boundaries, model, and shared vocabulary across teams.
• Write ADRs and ARB-ready specs for long-running workflows.
• Design idempotent, exactly-once workflows and event contracts.
• Lead migrations, code reviews, and mentor senior engineers.
