Job summary

Mantis Space in Albuquerque, NM is seeking an experienced software engineer to design and maintain flight software for our payload systems. You will define architectures for command/telemetry, data handling, health monitoring, and autonomous mission execution, and implement interfaces to spacecraft systems.

You will develop reliable software for all mission phases, contribute to tools and test environments, and participate in design reviews and mission operation support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field such as CS/CE/EE.
• 5+ years of embedded, real-time, or mission-critical software experience.
• Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Rust and Linux environments.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, interfaces, testing, and verification.
• Ability to work across hardware and software boundaries with suppliers.
• Experience troubleshooting complex software/electronics systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain flight software for payload systems.
• Define software architecture for command/telemetry, data handling, health monitoring, and autonomous missions.
• Develop reliable software for all mission phases, including commissioning and contingency scenarios.
• Implement interfaces between payload software and spacecraft systems.
• Create tools, libraries, test frameworks, and development environments for mission ops.
• Establish configuration, version control, build, release, and deployment practices.
• Participate in software architecture and design reviews.
• Lead payload-to-spacecraft integration and interface control activities.
• Support verification plans, automated testing, and hardware-in-the-loop efforts.
• Assist mission operations, anomaly investigation, and software updates.
