Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 30 college credits in law enforcement or related field.
• 18 months of full-time law enforcement experience with the City of Joplin Police Department.
• Valid state driver’s license and Missouri POST certification.
• Knowledge of federal, state, county and city statutes, codes, and ordinances relevant to law enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Patrols city streets, responds to calls, conducts preliminary investigations, and presents cases for charges.
• Acts as lead or senior officer, performing supervisory duties in the absence of the Sergeant.
• Enforces traffic laws, issues warnings and citations, and documents enforcement actions.
• Completes accurate incident, informational, and traffic accident reports to aid prosecutions.
• Responds to crashes, robberies, assaults, and other incidents; secures scenes and identifies witnesses.
• Arrests and transports suspects, ensuring proper processing and court appearances.
• Appears in court to present evidence and testimony.
• Works as Detective when assigned; investigates cases and builds prosecutions.
• Prepares incident reports to facilitate prosecutable cases.
• Collaborates with department and maintains satisfactory attendance to ensure service delivery.
