This position can hire candidates into the Pathologists' Assistant level or the Sr. Pathologist's Assistant depending on the experience/education requirements met.

This position is eligible to receive up to a $20,000 sign-on bonus!

Purpose of the Sr. Pathologists' Assistant:

Under the general direction of the Manager or Supervisor and the applicable Medical Director, oversees and performs activities of the pathology assistants in evaluation, examination, description, dissection, and sectioning of gross tissue in surgical pathology for microscopic review by pathologists. Performs auxiliary functions such as photography, specimen radiology, training, supervisory, and administrative duties.

Responsibilities include:
  • Operate, repair, replace, and maintain equipment; maintain logs.
  • Assist with administrative functions, quality assurance, data gathering, performance reviews, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and training.
  • Ensure proper test preparation from specimen collection to reporting, including special handling if needed.
  • Operate Laboratory Information System and Medical Archival Retrieval System.
  • Perform research protocols and special projects as required.
  • Follow departmental policies, procedures, safety standards, and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Provide technical leadership, consult on complex cases, and train team members.
  • Prepare surgical pathology cases for microscopy, maintaining accurate records.
  • Adhere to safety standards and participate in intraoperative procedures and continuing education.
  • Qualifications:
    • Graduate of NAACLS-accredited Master's program or Bachelor's in Biological Sciences/Medical Technology with 5 years clinical experience.
    • Strong analytical, technical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Potential exposure to biohazards and chemicals.
Licensure and Certifications:
  • ASCP certification required within 12 months of hire.
  • Act 34 clearance.
