Job summary

PathAI seeks a US Board Certified Senior Pathologist to join the internal PathAI Pathology team. Reporting to the Head of Pathology, the Sr.

Pathologist will serve as a subject matter expert and lead pathology efforts across Biopharma collaborations and AI-driven pathology projects. The role emphasizes biomarker assessment, digital pathology, translational research, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to advance clinical trials and DP/AI models.

Qualifications

  • MD/DO with US Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology and an active state medical license.
  • Residency-trained in anatomic pathology with expertise in surgical pathology and assessing histopathology, IHC, ISH, and multiplex assays.
  • Experience in digital pathology.
  • Expertise in immunohistochemistry and biomarker assessment (e.g. Her2, PDL1).
  • Background in translational research, immuno-oncology, and biomarker development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Pathology colleagues, Lab Ops, Clin Ops, Biopharma teams, project managers, and ML scientists to ensure high-quality pathology support.
  • Partner with Biopharma clients on exploratory biomarker and translational projects and on clinical services for trials under GCP, GCLP, CAP, and CLIA.
  • Lead pathology on Biopharma projects to recommend scoring approaches, select readers, train trial readers, and conduct manual and digital scoring of cases.
  • Represent PathAI on calls and meetings with Biopharma customers and KOLs at conferences.
  • Ensure quality of annotations from the PathAI Contributor Network and compliance across projects.
  • Provide subject-matter guidance on new DP/AI products and support model deployment and outputs analysis.
  • Contribute to publications.

PathAI is seeking a US Board Certified Senior Pathologist with strong general surgical pathology skills to join our internal PathAI Pathology team. Reporting directly to the Head of Pathology, the Sr. Pathologist will serve as a subject matter expert throughout the company.

This is a critical role to support customer Biopharma programs, and to help build state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms and digital pathology products. You are a pathologist who is keen to learn about new DP/AI technologies, is excited to work with Biopharma companies on their key programs, who has experience in biomarker assessment, and who will enjoy interacting with multidisciplinary teams. The Opportunity
  • You will collaborate with Pathology colleagues, Lab Ops and Clin Ops, Biopharma customer teams, project managers, machine learning scientists, and others to ensure the highest quality Pathology support.
  • You will collaborate with our Biopharma partners in all aspects of project development for exploratory biomarker and translational projects, as well as clinical services work related to clinical trials running through our GCP, GCLP, CAP and CLIA compliant Biopharma laboratory.
  • You will serve as a Pathology lead on Biopharma and other projects to recommend scoring approaches, help select network or KOL Pathologists, develop and provide training to clinical trial study readers, participate in manual and digital scoring of Pathology cases in various indications, and conduct internal assay validations.
  • You will represent PathAI on calls and face to face with Biopharma customers and KOLs, at Congresses and Meetings, and elsewhere as needed.
  • You will ensure the quality of annotations from the PathAI Contributor Network, the quality of Biopharma data, and compliance across all projects and programs.
  • You will provide Pathology subject matter expert guidance on new potential products, work with multidisciplinary teams to help develop new DP/AI models, assist in model deployments, review the outputs and statistics from the PathAI machine learning algorithms, and provide insights on the overall improvement of the output.
  • You will contribute to publications.
Who You Are:(Required)
  • You have an M.D. or D.O. with US Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology and an active state medical license.
  • You are residency-trained in anatomic pathology with expertise in surgical pathology and a proven ability to assess histopathology, IHC, ISH, and multiplex assays.
  • You have demonstrated experience in digital pathology.
  • You have demonstrated expertise and experience in immunohistochemistry and biomarker assessment (ex/ Her2, PDL1 etc).
  • You have a demonstrated background in translational research, immuno-oncology, and biomarker development.
  • The right candidate is structured and disciplined, has a natural curiosity about Biopharma programs and biomarker assessment and is also interested in the details of the machine learning field.
  • You have high emotional intelligence, communicate effectively, and are flexible and solution-oriented in your approach to problem solving and your work.
  • You enjoy working with multidisciplinary teams, and are an excellent collaborator, communicator, and team player.

Preferred:

  • You are fellowship trained with 2+ years of experience in clinical practice and/or biopharma/biotech industry settings.
  • You have outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and influencing skills: have built and cultivated important relationships both inside and outside of the organization and externally; have proven abilities to influence internal partners and stakeholders, thought leaders, national advocacy organizations, national standard-setting bodies, and other relevant external parties.
  • You have the proven ability to use sophisticated analytical thought, identify innovative approaches and act as a mentor.

This position is based in Boston, NYC, or remote.
Relocation benefits are not available for this position.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location Boston, MA is $208,000 - $320,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
