As the Senior Pastry Sous Chef at Wingate University, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing all aspects of the pastry program. This includes supervising the preparation and presentation of high-quality baked goods and desserts across campus dining and catered events. You will collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop innovative pastry menus, manage cost controls, ensure consistent quality, and lead a team of pastry staff in a fast-paced, collegiate foodservice environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the daily production of baked goods, desserts, and pastries for multiple service areas
Assist the Executive Chef with menu development focused on seasonal and student-driven offerings
Supervise and train pastry team members, ensuring consistency and excellence in execution
Support cost control efforts by managing pastry inventory, minimizing waste, and maintaining accurate ordering
Execute catering dessert displays and specialty items for events and VIP functions
Uphold high standards in food safety, sanitation, and allergen protocols
Collaborate with culinary leadership on the rollout of new pastry programs and seasonal promotions
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree or certificate in Baking & Pastry Arts or related culinary discipline
3+ years of progressive pastry or bakery leadership experience; university or institutional experience preferred
Proven ability to manage production in a high-volume environment
Strong knowledge of plated desserts, bread baking, cakes, and decorative pastry techniques
Experience leading a team and mentoring staff in a professional kitchen
ServSafe certification highly desirable
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic kitchen systems (inventory, ordering, scheduling)
