The Senior Pastor is called by God and affirmed by the congregation to serve as the spiritual leader and shepherd of the church. He will faithfully preach and teach the Word of God, provide pastoral care, and lead the congregation in a process of revitalization that emphasizes prayer, discipleship, evangelism, and biblical leadership, in accordance with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a sense of God’s call to pastoral ministry
- Character and conduct consistent with the biblical qualifications for pastors (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9)
- Seminary or theological training preferred
- Pastoral or preaching experience preferred
- Experience in, or a genuine heart for, small‑church ministry and revitalization
- Understanding of rural or West Texas ministry context
- A shepherd’s heart marked by humility, patience, and perseverance
- Willingness to invest relationally in people and the community
- Ability to lead change thoughtfully and biblically
- Faithfully preach and teach the Word of God in a manner that is biblically sound, Christ-centered, and applicable to daily life
- Plan and lead worship services that encourage spiritual renewal and congregational participation
- Administer the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper
- Lead the congregation in spiritual growth through preaching, teaching, and discipleship
- Shepherd a smaller congregation with patience, compassion, and faithfulness
- Provide pastoral care, counsel, encouragement, and prayer for church members and families
- Visit members, including the sick, homebound, and inactive, as needed and able
- Officiate weddings, funerals, and other pastoral services as requested
- Provide steady, biblically grounded leadership during a season of revitalization and transition
- Work cooperatively with deacons, committees, and church leadership to foster unity and trust
- Lead the church in prayerful evaluation of ministries, structure, and outreach opportunities
- Encourage faithfulness over short-term results, trusting God for growth and renewal
- Prepare for and participate in church business meetings in accordance with church bylaws
- Lead and model personal evangelism and a heart for reaching the local community
- Encourage the church to reengage with its mission field and surrounding community
Compensation, housing allowance or parsonage (if available), and benefits will be determined by the congregation and commensurate with church size, financial resources, and the nature of the position.
