Job description

Provide leadership, teaching, and direction of the church in all areas of ministry to fulfill the purpose and vision of Peace Lutheran Church and of the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ under the direction of the Council. Conduct religious worship services rooted in, and consistent with scripture. Provide spiritual and moral guidance and assistance to members of Peace Lutheran Church and its communities.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Sunday, Mid-Week Worship Services, and Special Services:
    1. Lead worship services and preach rooted in and consistent with scripture.
    2. Work closely with Worship Committee and other committees as appropriate, creating a comprehensive worship experience.
    3. Administer the sacraments such as Holy Communion, and Baptism according to guidelines of the LCMC and customs of Peace Lutheran Church.
    4. Participate in non-denominational community worship services as appropriate.
    5. Lead special services such as funerals, weddings, and baptisms.
  2. Teaching and Evangelism:
    1. Through teaching and modeling, inspire, teach, and challenge Peace Lutheran to worship Jesus Christ through Prayer, Praise, and Proclamation.
    2. Ensure the continued teaching of God’s Word to the congregation by working with and/or leading Confirmation Ministry, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Adult Bible Studies, and other educational programs.
  3. Counseling and Visitation:
    1. Crisis Counseling.
    2. Hospitalized and seriously ill visitation and counseling.
    3. Private, Pre-marital, Marriage, and Family Counseling.
    4. Congregational shut-in visitation.
    5. Prospective member visitation.
    6. Congregational visitation.
  4. General Responsibilities:
    1. Maintain a healthy relationship with God that exemplifies a disciplined plan of personal worship to include prayer and Bible study.
    2. Exhibit a positive Christian lifestyle.
    3. Maintain a continuing education plan for skill building and self-improvement.
    4. Be actively involved in the life and activities of Peace Lutheran Church.
    5. Participate and facilitate regular staff meetings.
    6. Work to ensure productive staff relationships.
    7. Maintain a schedule of core office hours to facilitate effective coordination with church staff.
    8. Report ministerial actions so that records are maintained in the church office.
    9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Church Council.

  7. Attention to Detail – position requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
  8. Communication – position requires being fluent in writing and speaking the English language.
  9. Delegation – position requires good delegation skills. Lead Pastor is responsible for advising and working with staff, multiple committee agendas and will need to work with others for church and community spiritual growth.
  10. Visionary – position requires Lead Pastor to be a visionary, growing Peace Lutheran into an active congregation, strengthening and growing its membership.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  1. An advanced seminary degree and a strong understanding of and acceptance of traditional Lutheran theology.
  2. Ordained minister and certified by Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ.
  3. Prior experience in a mid to large sized congregation with support staff.
  4. Able to obtain a ND Driver’s License.
  5. Must be able to pass a background check.
