Job summary

The City of Lubbock is seeking a Director of Parks & Recreation to plan, coordinate, direct and evaluate a comprehensive program of park and recreation services. You will lead management of major facilities, develop priorities, ensure efficiency, and represent the department in public meetings.

You will supervise staff, manage budget oversight, and promote strong community relations while advancing professional standards and service quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, business administration, public administration, health, physical education or closely related field with an additional five years of progressively responsible experience in recreation administration or public administration, including at least three of supervisory experience and one year of facility operations/oversight experience or any combination of relevant education and experience.
• Valid Texas driver license; Certified Park and Recreation Professional preferred; Playground Safety Inspector or related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee planning, coordination, directing and evaluating a comprehensive parks and recreation program.
• Develop departmental priorities, objectives, goals and seek new processes to improve efficiency.
• Oversee management of major recreation facilities and department budgets; monitor expenditures and performance data.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate management staff; provide coaching and ensure policy compliance.
• Represent the department at public meetings and with officials; maintain community relations and partnerships.
